Hello everyone! (smile)
Let me introduce myself: my name is Christophe, I'm from France, and I'm still in my thirties.
I've always been drawn to the sea. I used to draw a boat every day after school, I got my boating license, and I go sailing as often as I can.
My experience with model kits was with small Heller kits, which I completely messed up, except for my little Viking ship.
Then, during my teenage years, I started building military ships using kits (Clemenceau, Foch, Jeanne d'Arc, Duguay-Trouin, Duquesne, and the submarine Terrible). Then came the ocean liner Queen Mary.
And finally, I had a minor health issue that kept me out of school for three weeks, and I took advantage of the time to build the Heller Royal Louis! The painting, assembly, and rigging were completed in just over 15 days, and since I wasn't keen on the look of the plastic sails, I spent the remaining weeks making my own sails and flags out of fabric.
I discovered your forum while researching the supposed historical paint scheme of the 74-gun ships from 1770-1790. I saw some superb examples. I also wanted to see if it would be difficult, given my background in plastic, to tackle rigging with pulleys, etc.
And I must say that the discussions I read, always so helpful, convinced me to take the plunge and complete this update of my Royal Louis model, as well as to register and introduce myself!
Below some pictures of my Royal Louis as it was - currently under refurbishment
Looking forward to getting to know you.
