Cole brass gunner's caliper

I received a note from a friend that a Cole's brass gunner's caliper is up for auction. I responded
I would love to buy it, but when I leave this world, no one in the family will have any idea what it is and what to do with it. MAYBE our one granddaughter would appreciate it as she is doing archival studies in college now. I am trying to convince her to get a summer job at RMG or the National Archives in Kew Her problem is that she is worried Grandpa will never be out of sight if she was ever to get a job at either place.
Perhaps a member here would be interested.

I am taking of pictures after clicking and enlargement. When they sell collectibles, they MUST provide proper, detailed, large and sharp pictures so the buyers are able to assess the condition of the item. This is not the sack of potatoes that they sell for 500 to 900 pounds.

I think it might be your device, Y.T. The image is 2880 x 2880 pixels. At full resolution the circular part is bigger than my fist. And I have very fat fists.
