This is the original Confederacy model built by Robert Bruckshaw which is now in storage at the Smithsonian

an interesting note as each traced one another from the original museum plans no two tracings are exactly the same. Howard Chapelle traced the original then Robert Bruckshaw traced Chapelle and Hahn traced Bruckshaw. Now the original plans held by the National Maritime museum have a copyright so you can not use the original other than personal use. But if the plan was traced and redrawn 3 times over make you wonder what happens to the original copyright?

my guess if you state you used the "original" museum plan then that is subject to licensing if used for commercial purposes. If you use Bruckshaw's or Harold's drawings they have a copyright. This leaves the Chapelle plans in the Smithsonian as the only drawings in the public domain.

Was going to add that the US Navy of the Revolutionary War - such as it was - is of great interest to me, as is the War of 1812. The book "Six Frigates" by Ian W. Toll details the building of the ships that took part in the 1812 war as well as the battles with the Barbary Pirates and is excellent reading for those interested in the early histories of the US Navy. It seems like the problems that plagued the Confederacy carried on into the building of the ships of the later war period - lack of funds, lack of men, lack of supplies etc etc. etc. Fascinating period in our early countries founding.

Those are very nice carvings indeed. Only problem is there is no kit of Confederacy at 1:48 scale so it would need to be scratch built. And at that scale the model would be huge... perhaps too huge. The Model Expo kit is 1:64 scale and even built in pseudo-Admiralty style it is 35" long.
