Hi all,

Does anyone know where to buy1:48 scale, 17th/18th/19th century navy crew figures. Plastic or metal, I don't mind. It seems to be a subject that's not very well catered for.

Thank you

I wish I could provide a more fulsome answer for you but the best I can do after a cursory Google search for "1/48 / 28MM navy figures" are the attached sets from Shapeways Miniatures. Quarter scale is primarily the realm of aircraft models and a relatively small selection of AFV models; with patience and a 10X magnifier I have been able to perform some very nice conversions (if I do say so myself) of corresponding aircrew and tankers to 18th, 19th, and 20th Century jolly tars. Since there are literally thousands of excellent figure offerings in the aerial and terrestrial categories, you may consider that route if unable to locate suitable nautical figures.

Unfortunately period crewmen are not made anymore, unless you want some very silly looking pirates on a Royal Navy ship? There's more money and sales catering for gamers now. There are yt videos on adapting and remodelling WW11 soldiers etc.

How incredibly great of you to have all these figures available for free download in STL format! I downloaded Officer 6, and it looks great. He's probably a bit modern for my 16th century Carrack, but I doubt anyone will notice. Thanks!

I got some similar to the Royal Navy and Merchant Navy sets from Shapeways pictured above on line at 1:64 scale for my "Britannia" diorama". Not cheap, but worked out really well.

Thank you very much, Bertus! I downloaded all just in case. I am looking for small resin printer. Small as I would not need to print anything large. I work in 1:90 scale. Which printer would you recommend?

How about 1/68 scale 1800 ish
STL files can be 3-D printed at any size, so scale is never a problem. They can also easily be stretched or distorted, so from a single file you could have thin, tall people or short fat ones. Design or style, however, is another thing.

Hi there, I am a ship modeller and wargamer in the age of Napoleon and if you go to Foundry Miniatures you will find in the Napoleonic section Royal Marines, Naval Officers, some crew figures and gun crews in a smallish 28 mm size. Some wargamers have large sloops and so on and crew them so perhaps a Google search for 28 mm Napoleonic Naval Crews for wargaming might help.

Do you sell actual figures for those of us who don’t have 3-D printers and have no access to one?
