CVN-68 NIMITZ 1/350 by Trumpeter #05605 upgrading to 2020's.
I returned to plastic, leaving the wood, for this project to upgrade the CVN-68 Nimitz (1975) to the current operational standard (2020 onwards) starting from the Trumpeter 05605 kit with the support of the whole plethora of images on the web relating to the Nimitz.
Starting from the hull, the entire stern was modified by cutting the mold and adding the plasticard modeled as shown in the images. For the right proportions and measurements I used a ruler and simple mathematical proportion to obtain the correct cut of the plasticard. Over the years many mounts for the Phalanx, EWS, RAM Launcher etc. guns have been added to the hull.
Another challenging job is the island where the proportionality between the various levels was changed, lengthening and widening them.
Another operation is the modification of the two masts (main and secondary) which are completely different from the 1975 version.
Now some shots to show the current state of the project.
Until next time....
Piero
