DECK MASKING

Good afternoon all.
I recently bought the Trumpeter 1/350 Midway CV41 model kit.
While looking for aftermarket parts found an item labled as "Masking Sheet". I am thinking it might be a stencil for painting the deck for traffic lanes and such.
Could someone explain what a desk masking sheet is used for?

Hi Steven

Not familiar with aircraft carrier deck masking but the ones for battleships are normally designed so you can paint the deck. You then apply the masking sheet which will have cut outs for anything that protrudes, then paint the superstructure etc
