Did the poet Wordsworth in the 1790s understand something?

Perhaps a few modelers of Nelson era and other era vessels, and amateur writers such as myself, envision, as I do, what Wordsworth wrote in the 1790s toward the end of a long poem:
"I cannot at this moment read a tale
Of two brave Vessels matched in deadly fight
And fighting to the death, bu I am pleased
More than a wise man ought to be; I wish,
I burn, I struggle, and in soul am there.
Wordsworth's Abyss of Weakness
