I was just wondering if anyone has used weldbond to glue the copper plates to the wood hull. The adhesive on the back of the copper plates is not very strong.

Weldbond is a versatile PVA-based adhesive, and while it does bond metal to porous surfaces like wood, it is not ideal for attaching copper plates to a wood hull, especially for model shipbuilding, where long-term durability and resistance to humidity or temperature changes matter.
Here are my recommended alternatives:
  • CA glue (super glue): Fast, strong bond, often used by modelers for copper plates.
  • Epoxy (5-minute or longer set): Excellent for bonding dissimilar materials like metal to wood, offers stronger and more permanent adhesion.
  • Contact cement: Can work, but is messy and less precise for small plates.

Use a thick CA, the setting time is a little longer but gives you some 'wriggle time' - thin CA is almost instant.
