I was bending wood with a curling iron, and holding the curling iron and both ends of the wood was not working well. I made a wooden clamping collar to hold the handle of the curling iron in a vise, which was an improvement, but still not great. I noticed that this particular curling iron had a flat foot of some kind near the handle and a plastic cap at the end held on by a screw:

I found a piece of square tubing with a right angle attachment at my favorite San Francisco model supply store-

And with a little hacksaw work soon had this-

Rock solid to clamp in the ChiCom panavise and a huge improvement in the bending ability. Any square tubing or block of wood would work as well. A layer of some thin thermal insulation at the end would probably help (in theory) to reduce heat loss into the added part, but the screw on the curling iron was too short to add anything and my very local hardware store burned down last month. It works fine without the insulating layer. I thought it was useful mod and almost mindlessly easy- your mileage may vary!

Here is a picture of the curling iron mounted in the panavise:

I really like this set-up, and it knocks the socks off of a precariously held soldering iron. Heat alone works just fine on every wood I've tried it on- no need to soak, clamp wait overnight and put on two planks a day. The keyboard just came back from a construction site conex box, so please don't judge.
