This is my first attempt at a build log, so bear with me through my learning curve.
As my next project I have decided to build Ochre's Endurance.

I'm also trying something I have never done before, I am making it into a diorama. I'm trying to replicate this photo.

I have the keel and frames put together. no problems with this step. Everything fit together very well.

I have also worked on planking the decks. Again this step went smoothly.

They really do look good! Assembly the deck planking looks to be a lot easier off the model. It hard to tell from the photos, but is there any rounding/camber of the decks? The below is the original blue print when she was built in Norway as Polaris and shows the little bit of rounding. The reason for the question is would a lot of rounding like on other ships cause the planking to separate when bent to match the cambered beams/bulkheads.
Thanks
Allan

I'm thinking I would do it like a train modeler. Form it out of foam, then apply spackle to rough it up. I would then paint it white, add blues and some grays to give it depth. I would then apply a semi gloss or satin finish and do a dry brush after it dries. I'm planning on adding fake snow to give it even more depth and hopefully realism. Well that's the vision, I'll find out how well it works when I start to experiment with the process.

I have planked decks on and off ships I have built in the past. In my experience either way is about the same. The directions on this kit shows it being complete off the ship. This works for me because I'm weathering the decking and it's a lot easier to do this off the ship. But doing it off the ship also led me to trim more than I should have off, now I have some correcting to complete.

I'm trying a weathering technique I have never tried. I went over the decking with black paint, almost like a dry brush and then a good sanding. I tried a couple of different stains on some spare pieces and decided on the "Summer Oak" A couple of coats of satin finish to top it off.tempImageOUHXP5.jpg
A couple oof the bulkheads that show need to be painted white.tempImageInXbUn.jpg
I"m weathering a I go along so I dried brushed some gray to dull it down a bittempImagekI2dly.jpg
After I get more of the ship complete I might try some washes or draw downs to add more weathering. This is all new to me so I learning as I go along.

I appreciate the interest my fellow ship modelers are showing in my latest build. I will be leaning on you for advice and techniques for met build.
