I found the Occre kit very lacking in detail about the steering engine, funnel and the focs’l on Endurance. I took my ideas from the Getty pictures on the Internet. The main parts of the engine were fashioned from 1 mm copper wire. This is quite soft and responds well to ‘ blacksmithing ‘ with a small hammer on the tail of my bench vice. The funnel was swapped for a metal tube found in a discarded ‘vape. The Getty photo of the focs’l shows a small portable davit for handling the anchors. Once again copper wire was used. Most of the kit brass work has been blackened with patent brass-black. The stanchions in the kit are dreadful and turned brass ones are on order. The windlass was from a long dead Billing kit. Lots more to do, about a year into the build so far.
