Ethan Builds With Grandpa

Anyway, I guess we will both just need to enjoy the time we get to work together and not be worried about how long it takes.
Very nice to see you here again with a new build, Ethan. And you are graduated in 4 months from a 8+ to a 10+ build.:) For sure you can make this ship, with some help of your grandpa. It seems to be that he's very good with model kits. But some of them took him more than a year to finish ..... Kindergarten is also fun. So, that is double fun in the next weeks/months.
Regards, Peter

Hi guys, thanks for encouraging Ethan. I'll be sure to read all of your posts to him the next time we work on his ship together. This is a great hobby with some truly remarkable people participating in it.

He really does try to do his best, so I think he could be a really good modeler one day (if he decides to stick with it).

Hi everyone!

Today grandpa and I started our second ship model. I picked this one because it is a glow-in-the-dark ghost ship! Grandpa says it is the paint that glows in the dark, but I don't understand because the box clearly shows a ship glowing in the dark.

Well, it turns out this kit is way too hard for me. There are too many pieces, and they are hard to cut out and even harder to put together. After about half an hour I asked grandpa if I could be done and he said yes.

Grandpa said that next time he would have the parts cut out and ready to go and I can just put the pieces together with his help.

Here is what we did today:

But now there is a problem - I am starting kindergarten very soon and that means I can't come to stay with grandma and grandpa during the week. After spending all of last week with grandpa on vacation he doesn't seem to be troubled by my limited visitation schedule - but grandma is very sad. Oh, grandpa says I can't sit next to Ellie anymore when we eat.

Anyway, I guess we will both just need to enjoy the time we get to work together and not be worried about how long it takes.

Thanks for visiting me and my glow-in-the-dark ghost ship!
Make sure you install a great Black Light - it'll make that glow-in-the-dark really stand out!

Hello to all my ship modeling friends! This is Ethan again and I am happy I was able to go to see grandma and grandpa today and work on my ship model. I started kindergarten this year so I don't get to visit as much as I used to.

Right now we are still building the glow-in-the-dark pirate ship. Grandpa says this one is too hard for me, so he gets the pieces ready ahead of time and then we put them on the ship together. I do the big pieces, and grandpa does the little pieces if I can't do them by myself.

I like to just look at the pictures and put on the pieces but grandpa says we have to follow the directions. Grandpa says he thinks some of the grown-ups on this forum like to build their models the way I do. I thought that was really funny!

I was sitting with grandpa for a little while when he was working on his model. I asked him why he doesn't use directions and he says his ship doesn't have directions so he has to look at the pictures just like I do. He still says I should follow the directions even if he doesn't.

Today I put the sides and back of the ship on mostly by myself. I tried to do the cannons by myself too but they were too hard so grandpa helped.

In this picture I just finished the back part:

Putting on the sides took all of my concentration:

I asked grandpa about 100 times today when we were going to do the glow-in-the-dark paint. Grandpa says he needs to read more of the directions to find out... I hope it will be next time!

Bye for now!

Nice! I don’t always follow directions either Ethan, because they aren’t always very logical. I know that’s a big word for you, so let me just say sometimes the people who make the instructions to build a model are stupid! ROTF So I have to look ahead a few steps or more to make sure I want to build it the way they tell me. But for now I’d say listen to grandpa, because he’s really smart. Or he is really good at acting like it! ROTF Grandpa will understand that joke. ;)
Keep up the good work and one day you will be building big wooden ships like grandpa Paul. We call him Doc because …well because we do. And I think his patients call him doc too. Speaking of patients, there’s another kind of patience needed to make models. And if you don’t have much now, you will by the time you get good at building ships! The difference is your patience won’t pay you like Grandpas do! ROTF

Hi Ethan. If you only have to look at the pictures to know how to put the parts together then you are a clever boy! Thumbsup
The manual is actually written for stubborn older people. And often by older people who think they know how boys like you should build.
Go ahead and do it as you do now. If it doesn't work out, Grandpa Paul will tell you.
Regards, Peter (who is also a bit older and stubborn);)

Your grandpa is very clever......this is a true story and way more fun than following instructions. ROTF
Have fun. Cheers Grant

Today grandpa and I started our first ship model. I picked it from the pile because grandpa said it would only take two days to make. I have the attention span of a five-year-old so grandpa says I made a good choice.

I'll be back in two weeks.
Ethan,

My name is Bill and have a grandson named Noah. I have been teaching him modeling. You are doing great work as is he. It is great seeing such young people interested in this hobby! Keep up the great work!

Bill

Hey Ethan, :D

Wow, I'm late... But I think you and your grandpa are a great team and always will be. :DThe most important thing is that you both love each other sooooooo much. Grandpa is definitely super proud of you, even if he's a bit grumpy now and then... ROTF He will always have you in his heart. It's obvious that you both have such a great hobby, right? Building and crafting is always fun, especially when you can do it with your grandpa. I read that you can't wait for the ship to light up, right? Maybe your grandpa can paint a little car or a little house with you so you can see what it looks like when it glows in the dark. Then I'm pretty sure you and Grandpa will have the ship built in no time so you can see it glow in the dark.
I'm happy for you both and the more time you'll get to spend together, and I'm glad you're here to show us such beautiful pictures, thanks to the great photographer Grandpa.Thumbsup

It's great to have you here, Ethan, and Paul, thank you very much for this refreshing contribution. Simply beautiful. Thumbsup:DExclamation-Mark

I send you and Grandpa my warmest regards and hope you continue to enjoy the light ship from beautiful Germany ...Ship-1
