This is not a build log per se, but rather a question regarding this kit. I really like the looks of this fishing vessel so I purchased the kit. While finishing another ship I thought I would jump into this one while glue and paint dries on my current project.
Not wanting to clutter my workspace with too much I decided to begin the build with the small ships boat. I've read a couple of build logs on the Fife and one thing I noticed is no one has constructed the ships boat which brings me to my question: The 1 x 3mm walnut strips are, to say the least, very fragile. while the bends at the bow are not severe bends these strips are very prone to splitting/cracking even with soaking and using heat.
Just wondering if others have encountered this with the Amati wood.
This walnut is very coarse grained and I'm about ready to mill some strips from stock I have on hand which have a finer grain.
