Hello fellow model ship builders. I am a registered member but this is my first post. Prior to this I primarily viewed the site for tips for builds I was working on. I have been a member of MSW for many years with 9 build blogs on the site. Now that the site is no more I hope to be accepted here as a builder sharing and looking for advice. I primarily build wooden ship kits with OcCre being my go to supplier. I am currently building the OcCre Amerigo Vespucci.

Hi Bill, glad to see you over here, such a shame to see all those build logs lost. If you've kept a copy of any of yours, it would be great to see them re-published here. I thought the Heller HMS Victory log was especially valuable as a step by step guide to that kit.

Hello Kevin. Glad to see a familiar face.

Ok my new friends I need to figure out how this site works. As a long time member on the now gone MSW starting and posting updates on a new build log was a routine I mastered long ago. I tried to look at a couple tutorials but am still a little fuzzy.

So for example let’s say I want to start a new build log under wooden ships. How do I do that? I am not going to try posting the 9 old builds I have finished on MSW but would like to do a quick synopsis of my current Amerigo Vespucci build and then continue progress reporting.

Hi Bill, Posting a build log is easier than it looks — let me walk you through it.
From the main page, scroll down until you see the forum sections. You'll notice different categories to choose from — the darker shaded bar is the section title, and below it are the individual forums that fall under this particular category.

From there, just pick the forum that best fits your needs, and you'll have the option to either start a new thread or jump into an existing one.

To start a build log for your current project, go to the “Ships of Scale Build Logs” section. From there, choose the category that best matches your model type and medium.

For example, if you’re building Amerigo Vespucci from a wooden kit, the “SoS Build Logs from Kits – Wood” section would be the right place.

Once you’re in the correct section, look for the “Post Thread” button on the right-hand side. Click it—this will open the page where you can create your new build log.

Give your log a clear and meaningful title, ideally including the ship’s name, scale, and kit manufacturer (if applicable). Then you can start writing your build log.

To add images, simply drag and drop them from your computer into the text area—they’ll upload automatically where you place them.

Welcome to SoS! Beautiful work on the Amerigo Vespucci. Looking forward to the builds you have to share. I am about 6 months in as a member of SoS and (sadly) MSW. Here on SoS I found the best way to interact with the community is to do a build log and to ask questions (I bold and italicize) in your build log for guidance. Earlier I was doing my first wooden hull and I needed to unglue a CA glue joint (rookie question) and several members chimed in with helpful guidance. What I have found most impressive is the knowledge many members here have about historical shipbuilding eras and techniques. I have an interest in Dutch merchant vessels / warships from the 17th century and there is a great community within SoS with much more knowledge about how ships were build in that era than most books on the topic. Fair winds and full sails!

Thanks Jimsky. I started a post for my build. When you have time I would appreciate if you could advise me if I did it correctly.

Yes, Bill, you did a good job creating a first build log

I posted a reply (this is the way we respond to posts), and below your direct link to your build log.
