Has anyone figured out how to “Rube Goldberg“ a fly fishing tool called a whip finisher for serving and seizing rope? It seems to me that it should be possible…
any thoughts?

I don't think it's possible. That tool relies on rotating around the fly to work, the fly is only supported at one point. The line being served must be supported at both ends which prevents the tool from rotating around it.

It would be possible to make a machine that wraps the serving line around the line being served, but it would be as bulky and complex, or more so, as the serving machines currently in use.

Just my $.02
