I am trying to learn FreeCAD basics right now. I am watching some Youtube videos to get a handle on how to start. There is also some beginner efforts over on Model Ship World.

I found a video on YouTube we’re the guy was modeling a ship using FreeCAD.

Video 1 shows how to use some of the tools in FreeCAD.

Video 2 shows the actual modeling of a ship.
