This'll be a one-time thread showing an in-progress but currently stored Revell America build. I put this away to devote all my attention to a PoF build of Bluenose over in the group build.

As I got into this Revell kit I realized that I wanted better detail than the kit provided and before long I was modifying things quite differently than the original ship. Being a prototype modeling nut I thought it best that I just go totally freelance and not ever call it America.

I built each mast around a length of brass brazing rod stiffener core. Each mast had all the hoops sanded off and the molded-in boom grooves filled with a spiral wrapping of .010" styrene strip then sanded smooth. I regret already gluing on the main top mast, that will be removed and a new one scratchbuilt.

A new bowsprite was fabricated using styrene strips forming a box surrounding a brass rod core. The resulting plastic long box was then scraped to form the resulting spar profile.

Wanting more 20th Century-looking deck houses I chose the scratchbuild route. For simplicity I decided to mass produce all the house ends as a sandwich between a pair of brass ends. That is shown in the second photo.

Barely seen in I believe photo 5 at the bottom of the stbd samson bitt is a large brown-styrene nut-bolt-washer casting obtained from the model railroading hobby. I'll be putting another over on the outboard bottom port bitt.

The wood deck is from HIS Models in Czechoslovakia. I bought their entire America detailing package.

Now back into storage and concentration on Bluenose. Thanks for looking.
