Working on AL Endeavour and would like to have some of the sails furled. Looking for instructions or guidance on how to accomplish it. The kit came with ready made sails. Do I use them or make new sails and what type of material? Do you apply glue ?

First of all, any fabric material is way too thick to be used at any reasonable modeling scale, and it’s impossible to sew stitches fine enough to look realistic. The state of the art material for ship model sails is Silkspan, a soft paper material used by model airplane builders. It is usually painted with acrylic paint while still in sheet form. Furled sails are also made undersized to avoid looking too bulky.

I would not use kit supplied sails.

Anyone know where to get Silkpan? Google has no idea what it is. Mantua Models lists Modelspan, but it's out of stock.

I used the lite version - but there are also thicker ones at that storefront.

I never ordered from this place but her is another source I found:
