On the Discovery1789 the galley stove sits between the knees of the main riding bits. On the original drawings I see no sign of a forecastle bulkhead, it looks open to the wind and rain blowing in from aft. John McKay's drawings show a "galley bulkhead" that is just a set of double doors that go from knee to knee between the stove and the bitts cross piece. There is just enough room for the doors to open without hitting the cross piece. At best the doors would just be a windbreak. As I said earlier the original plans show no sign of this although the plans are said to be incomplete.
My question is, how common was a windbreak/set of doors just sitting there without a complete bulkhead from bulwark to bulwark?
Thanks
