Gday,
Hachette Bismarck procrastinating building subscription series from nearly 20 years ago, very new to the model building world especially wood, so, yes this Bismarck may not be perfect but the next will!
Just wanted to say Gday and introduce myself.
Cheers,
Jason Lloyd

Good oh. And I'll be happily following your endeavours. Not too many "modern" ship builders here (but amazing wood builders overall).

Hi Jason,
Welcome aboard from balmy Newcastle :) I had built the metal/plastic version of the part series Bismark some years back. Must admit, wasn't totally happy with it, but gave it a try. Enjoy the forums.

Welcome to the joys of building the Hachette Bismarck. I started my build in 2007, abandoned it in 2010 then resumed in 2022 when I retired. As I work through the parts (currently No 116), my frustration with PE grows daily. I simply do not understand the attraction of it and some of the pieces are ridiculously small. It would have been easier to use plastic molds. I have used a variety of glues from superglue to PVA (on advice from a modeller) to now WeldBond (again advice from another forum). Living in tropical Cairns with high temperatures and humidity doesn't help. A case in point was the construction of the main and secondary turrets. Superglue didn't hold the PE to the wooden frame. My solution? I had these turrets and guns 3D printed - this is probably sacrilegious on this forum but it reduced my blood pressure and swearing immensely and I can have the files printed locally. Over the Christmas period, I put all the bits'n'pieces together to show my neighbours the progress over two years as I'm often asked, "How's the Bismarck going?" to which I reply, "Slowly." I think there's another good 12 months to go. Good luck with your build. Take it slowly and keep calm.
