When one kit is done you start another. Here we have the golden hind by occre. I plan on changing some things with this one. Going to upgrade the blocks to some by drydock. Going to upgrade the deadeyes to dark walnut. Any other changes yall have in mind that might make this kit over top I'm all ears.

Good morning Derek(well here anyway). After enjoying your Panart battle deck log, I will pull up a chair for this one. Tree nails look great- I enjoy the detail you include into your builds.
Thank you. Yea the tree nails can be a pit of a pain. Normally I do .5mm black monofilament to simulate the nails like I did on the BEAGLE but on this one I decided to go a more natural look with the wooden nails. Once I get the decking completed, I'm going to scratch build the doors for the deck. Not to fond of the photo etched ones that came with the kit.

Finished out the rest of the deck planking. Well as promised I did away with the photo etched doors and made my own doors

Got the bulwarks on and in place. They didnt want to sit flush with the gun ports so I had to make some braces for them to sit right. Worked better than i had imagined.

Here are the braces

Hit everything one the inside with another coat of Danish oil. The kit doesn't call for it but I will be putting rubbing on the inside of the bulwarks instead of keeping it flat and smooth.

First and foremost I will say I am not a fan of planking these galleons. Got the nails pulled out of the bulwarks. Put some filler basswood at the bow of the ship. Faired the hull, and got the port side completely planked with the first planking. Be a little but before I can get back to her with going back to work tomorrow night.

Can someone expl6to me what these are and what role the play on the hind. The kit comes with photo etched ones and I'm thinking of making them out of wood but none of the instructions show any rigging going to them. View attachment 282153View attachment 282154
Those brass things baffled me when I built the OcCre Golden Hind. They were also a pain to attach; the only contact with gunwale was the thin edge of the brass. This was my first kit build since my teens and I hadn't then discovered SOS. I just built as OcCre instructed with no refinements.

I'm thinking about making them out of wood like in the second picture has them

Those are period belay points…used to belay lines of all sorts...either running rigging, lines for secure docking, or temporary lines for working lift rigs. There are many rigging options that would use these belay chocks. The etched brass approach is a poor rendition however…probably cheaper for the kit than ones made of wood. I would build some wood constructs instead. You can use the etched brass pieces as templates for wood parts. Or you can order wood replacements online.

Thank you. The reason I ask is because in the rigging diagram it doesn't have any rigging going to them. But I'm planning on making them out of wood like the second picture

Nice touch with the door.

Nice touch with the door.
Thank you. I just couldnt see myself putting the photo etched ones on and I added a forth door at the bow of the ship. Had to think of how they would get to the bowspirte without climbing over railing.

Watching with interest, this Occre kit is a similar template and era to the Occre HMS Revenge I am currently building.
