There are some either very cool or very silly ferries running on Lake Ashi in Japan-one good picture is here:

Lots of carving, slab sides, minimal rigging and bright colors would make for an interesting model. And anyone looking at it would be thinking "what on earth is going on" on multiple levels. No idea if scaled plans are available, but there are a LOT of photos. Just search for hakone pirate ship/ferry or lake ashi ferry/pirate ship. To my twisted mind they look like they would be fun to plan and build.
