Greetings All, thank you for allowing me to join this wonderful forum!

I’ve been building wooden models for the better part of 15 years although mainly airplanes. I’ve always admired these incredible build logs of various wooden ship models and finally decided to begin building some of my own.

Here’s the catch, the first kit I bought is the Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon. It’s absolutely beautiful to look at all of the fine wooden and brass cannons. However, at the current time it’s beyond my skill so I’ve decided I’ll build a few smaller kits first to learn and develop the proper techniques. I’ve always been a fan of Model Airways kits and their Model Shipways line looks to have quite a few kits that would fit the bill. I’m here to learn though so I’m certainly looking for suggestions from the community!

Welcome to the forums !
You have made a wise choice to start out with some simpler kits. :)
I would say that with your experience of the planes, you probably don't need to start with the 3 kits in the Shipwright series and could probably start with the MS1460 Armed Longboat, or the MS1457 Longboat kit. Or, if you want a bigger challenge, look at the MS2160 Armed Virginia Sloop.

Thank you for the warm welcome! I just made a trip down to my local hobby shop with the intention of buying some needle files and saw that they’d gotten in a number of Model Expo kits. Among them were the Syren and the New Bedford Whaleboat. The Stern I think might be a good 2nd or 3rd kit to complete so I bought the Whaleboat. Really excited to get started on it. My main work space is currently a hangar for an in progress Fokker DR-1 so now I have an excuse to build up a second work table in the house! I will be starting a build log of this kit here shortly. Thanks again for the welcome!

I had a .60 size DR-1 that was scratch built. :) Tough to land without flipping it over due to the high CG. :)

So I’ve heard! This one is a 1/4 scale kit from Balsa USA. I’m still debating whether I’ll fully fit it out for flight or just let it hang from the ceiling as a nice display piece. That’s very impressive on the scratch build!

I had a 1/5 Ziroli Zeke. :)
I've not tried one yet, but I believe a scratch built sailing ship will be significantly more difficult. :)

also from my side a warm welcome here on board of our forum
