Happened across this forum the other day and it seems like a good place to be to learn and see how others achieve things and what they do. I'm reasonably new to wooden model building, by that I mean it took me nearly 23 years to complete the Bluenose, some things happened along the way like everyone else though, Navy, family and life, all good things! I apologize in advance for anything I may do in the future or have already done.
I can't say I have or only build nautical, hence the apology... I've built the Gentle lady, a 2m glider, the afore mentioned Bluenose II, Gorch Fock, Cutty Sark, a steam launch with actual single cylinder steam power, Puddle Master, (electric powered Flying boat), scratch built tug, in progress. I have a tendency to finish or find kits part way through a build that others have given up on for various reasons, and I'm okay with that, makes for a good challenge to finish it out. The puddle master came home with my wife after she went for a walk and found herself in the thrift store, yeah, I'll build that. She came home with another Bluenose a while back too, from the same shop. I have a 1:75 scale Cutty Sark that I rescued from someone who thought it was an archaic way to spend your time, he obviously didn't understand! Oh and I have a couple of WWI biplnes, one in the den and one in the garage, when you set up to build one in the shop a guy should always build two in case you break something right! Any way just wanted to say a hello and a little about what I have done and look forward to reading and seeing what all of you are up to.
Chat later and see you around.
Cheers from the West Coast

Welcome to the SOS group Shaun. We can hardly call you an inexperienced modeller, and it's great to see that you have a wife with your best interests in mind when she visits the thrift store.

Welcome to the forums Shaun ! I had a Sophisticated Lady sailplane and a .60 size Fokker DR1 along with many other RC planes. I also have many plastic kits (built and unbuilt). So, your apology is not necessary. :)

also from my side a wa rm welcome here on board of our forum

Thank you all for the welcome, I have been poking around the decks and I see a lot of talented people around the forum. Once I get myself sorted out with my current rescued kit of the Bluenose I, I'll be starting on the rescued Cutty Sark. That one I will likely have some questions about and thoughts on correcting some build issues from the previous owner. I will have a dig around in the forums but, are there any reasonable places that sell and ship to Canada, things like planking and fittings. The Bluenose is missing all her deck planking so I am looking to source that, and then I came home with another rescued model last night. I came across GJOA cutter of Amundson 1:60 scale Constructo kit. There is no hardware in it at all but there is everything else rigging line included. I need to go through and make a list of blocks and fitting and see what I can source. So if someone can point me in a direction or two that would be awesome.

Cheers to all, keep smiling!

Well, it's amazing what you find when you spend a little more time and have a look around, found the extensive vendors list. If I can't find it there, I probably don't need it!

Cheers

Welcome to the forum Shaun. I haven't been there in a few years but BC Shavers and Hobbies in Victoria at one time had various blocks and fittings. If you're on the south end of the island it might be worth a visit.

Cheers eh,

Todd

BC Shavers is no more, that used to be the place to go, I used to go in there and Royal oak Hobbies when I was a kid. As for BC Shavers the original owner or his son actually retired and sold it all lock stock and building. Now it is called BC Hobbies and resides in Hillside mall, and no it is nowhere near where near the store it used to be. Oh well they come and they go, enjoy them while they are and we are here. Found my local hobby shop can get some materials in so I will start there. On to see what I can gather form the boards on thinning acrylic paint for airbrushing, new process to me, humbrol was easy... Well known anyway.

Cheers my friends.
