Hello David, I'm thinking the time period would be Jutland 1916 where she blew up and sank. I'm influenced by this beautiful model in Greenwich maritime museum. Note the dark grey colour of the antifouling paint under the waterline.

those 2 long things on the aft deck between "Y" turret & the stern are the accommodation ladders, 1 for either side of that part of the hull. the drawings even tho 1913 should still be of use for something like that. is there a boarder around the deck edge or just deck planking meeting the top of the hull?
got 2 Trumpeter 1/350 scale USS San Francisco heavy cruiser models waiting at the post office so i can kitbash to make the 3 variants of that class plus 2 Academy 1/350 scale USS Indianapolis heavy cruisers waiting at the hobby store in Barrie for me to pickup to kitbash 1 into a Northampton class heavy cruiser. i also have a 1/350 scale USS San Francisco lower hull that i will use to make a Pensacola class heavy cruiser.

David, the boarder around the deck edge you are referring to is the torpedo nets rolled up. I will highlight them with paint.

there should be a plank running along the edge of the deck that the deck planking meets instead of meeting the edge of the hull, is that edge plank there or not?

i think i see it but not certain as not enough resolution. what are those square looking deviates along the edge of the deck used for?

I think they are areas where I need to adhere fittings. Just looking at the drawings, it appears they are a type of torpedo net davits mounted on the deck. But would welcome your opinion David. thank you.

You are correct Brian, the square spaces are for the brailing davits used to handle the heavy torpedo nets. Some have a secondary use (extended) as boat davits, 30' gigs at the rear and the 27' whalers forward portside. There are a pair of 16' dinghies to starboard. Nice looking kit, was it exspensive?

All the best JJ..

Thank you sir, that’s great information. As for the cost, you can go on eBay and search for 3D printed ship and you will find multiple sellers for this kit.

Hello friends,
my new project is another 3d printed ship model from China this time it’s the battlecruiser Queen Mary.
Photos below are from the manufacturer showing various parts. The hull is segmented in 3 sections. More to come soon.

Hi Brian,
If I didn't know better, I'd say you might be smitten with these 3D printed models.
:)

Look forward to your build.

Very interesting kit and I'm looking forward to watching her come together. I don't think I've ever seen a model of Queen Mary. I think the well-like structure where the ship's boat is stored is unusual.

Once I get my ship building act together and back on track, may just have to give one a try.
:) Are all your ships from the same company on eBay?

Hello Steve,
my ship models are from various ebay stores. I would however say the pink resin kits are vastly superior than the grey resin models. Much more detail and better looking deck planking.

Here is a rather disappointing earlier build of mine with the grey 3D resin kit. You can see the deck planking is over scale and looks wrong.

Its the battlecruiser IJN kurama.

Beautiful work. You guys have much more patience that I do. Way back I used to build model cars and Aircraft Carriers, The Graf Spee and a few airplanes.
Your Kung Fu is better!

Bryian, I was interested to see that you're doing a 1/200 version of the 3d printed Queen Mary. I have the 1/350 version of the same model in my stash and it is next on my list... Incidentally, the color scheme you found in the pic from the Greenwich Museum may be accurate for Jutland. A lot of RN capital ships of that period had dark grey anti-fouling paint, according to Richard Dennis's monograph "Royal Navy Ships’ Bottoms and Boot-Topping 1914-1950". The upper hull paint was also carried down over the boot topping at the time, so there was no visible boot stripe. The vertical surfaces above the waterline would likely have been RN 507A, a very dark grey. Hope that is of some interest.

I see your point. Disappointing for sure.
