I've spent most of my 53 years in scale modeling, and finally decided to fulfil the dream of jumping into ship modeling, and boy did I not realize how much I didn't know. If you would've asked me about 7 weeks ago what a Topgallant was, I probably would've guessed some kind of show horse...ROTF Picked up a ship about two months ago from one of Model Expo's sales and have been doing research since while I've been finishing up an AFV on the modeling table, and it's been like trying to drink from a fire hose! I have noticed from perusing the site that Olha is pretty popular, and I can't thank her enough for the content she has put out on Youtube... been binge watching the heck out of it, and you will likely notice a very heavy influence from her work. Looking forward to getting this thing started soon, and will be setting up a build log shortly.

Welcome! Working on a wood model is quite different than plastic, but members and build logs here will provide plenty of guidance. The tough areas will be hull planking and rigging. Which model did you buy from Model Expo? I just bought Sir Francis Drake's Revenge by OcCre to start building after my current ship project. Ship-1

Ohla's videos taught me how to make scratch built sails, so count me among her fans, and her husband Kroum Batchvarov is a world renowned ship archaeologist and a huge source of research information.

When you start building your model, create a build log thread on this forum and people will answer your questions as you go and offer advice when you ask.

Best wishes on your build!

also from my side a warm welcome here on board of our forum

Thanks to all!

I was looking at the Albatros as a beginner, but after watching a few build videos, I thought I could handle something a bit more of a challenge to start off with. After doing some homework, I decided I wanted to go with an OcCre model since their rigging diagrams seemed a bit more novice friendly, and I was looking at the likes of the Corsair, Candelaria, San Martin, Erebus/Terror, etc. With that "blowout sale" that ModeExpo had at that time, the Candelaria was half-price for that weekend, so I decided to snab it since I really like the looks of her lines.
