Hey all,

I'm Chris, from Summerville, SC. I am an airplane modeler, there, I said it. ;) I've built models on and off since I guess around 2008 when my VA head doc said to get a relaxing holly. Clearly, he has never built one. lol. Anyway, I friend asked me to build him a USS Arizona after seeing some of the planes I've built. Told him I built the old Revell kit years ago and it was a disaster, so just stuck with planes. He doesn't build at all, and insisted, so after a few shots of tequila, I agreed. I've seen some other modeling forums, and belong to a few, but stumbling on this one, it looks like a really great place for info and sharing. Even reading some of the threads on wood ship modeling have me interested in trying a wood kit eventually as well.

As for me, I am retired from the Army and have been to Iraq twice. Been to some great assignments as well, Germany, Hawaii, Louisiana...well, Louisiana was great because it was only a year, we stayed in the field most of the time blowing stuff up, and I left. Thumbsup Now, I work for the govt and hopefully will be retiring there early next year as well.

I appreciate getting into SoS, and look forward to conversations and getting some good, sound advice.

Regards, Chris

Hello Chris, were you at Ft Polk in LA?

Also from a fellow veteran, thanks for your service.

Hey Chris, take a look at the trumpeter 1/200 scale Arizona. (You can find it on a few websitesike.amazon, ebay etc.) Yes it's a plastic kit but nothing like the old Revel models. The castings are superb, the size is big enough to cover a dinner table and the cost isn't bad at all.for what you get, around 200ish sometimes cheaper.

Yep, good old Fort Polk. It was my very first duty station. For the entire 12 months we were in the field for two weeks. The two weeks out of the field, the first was recovery from the field, second was prep to go back out. ROTF

That is the kit I will build for my friend. He has the wood deck, plus it has some photo etch. I've been reading about the ship color, there sure is a lot of debate on about what it was in early 41, up to Dec 7. As I don't use an air brush, my best hope will be to find the right, or close to it, color in Tamiya rattle can. I do like the big scale, will be easier on my eyes. It will probably take me a long time, but as he lives close by, it will be easy to deliver.
