Hello From Texas

Welcome to the forum.

What ship building area are you looking at wooden, plastic, card stock?

We have many different interests covered in multiple media.

Lots of information to be gleaned from the many help subjects and posts.

I'm looking at wooden. Came across the Occre HMS Terror and being highly interested in the Franklin Expedition, I was like wow, this looks amazing. I think it would be fun to build, hopefully I don't sound naive in thinking that. I also have no clue what are essential tools one needs to build a wooden ship.

Hallo James, also from my side a warm welcome here on board of our forum

As for basic tools, most are truly basic in nature, exacto blades, glue, sandpaper, paper clamps (binder clips) other small clamps.

You can get basic starter tool sets from Micro-Mark and Model Shipways websites.

Have fun reading different build logs on ships your interested in and see what they have used.

Fancy tools come in later when you try to do your own upgrades or designs from scratch build plans.

I'm James, live in San Antonio, Texas. New to ship building. A huge World War I & Falklands War aviation nut. Not sure what else to say, I hope to learn a lot from y'all.

James
