Thanks for having me here.
I’m Mark….a long-time scale modeler taking the first steps into building wooden ships. My wife - for years - threatened to buy me one because she figured I needed a challenge beyond plastic, and she came through about 18 months ago for my birthday when I unwrapped Victory Models’ “Granado”. I knew I needed a bit of a stepping stone, so I also picked up a 1/48 18th C Longboat to use as a “trainer” so I could learn some of the basic techniques. (Frank Mastini’s venerable book was a great guide).
This is a learning journey for me, and an enjoyable one. I was pleased to see Rawen’s 2021 build log of a similar offering, and that’s been helpful, although he’s skilled enough to modify and scratch-build a lot of stuff for his kit. I’ve also followed a video build log on YouTube, which was also educational.
Fair warning, I’m likely to fire off a lot of n00b questions, particularly when it comes to the rigging and some of the plan interpretations, so I’m grateful in advance for your patience.
I look forward to connecting with you and sharing in your expertise. Also keen to connect with any other Canadians here, particularly ones who might live out my way.
In my day job, I work as a learning & development consultant (35+ years). I’m currently on assignment as a learning architect and advisor to an engineering division for a major Auto Manufacturer.
Now, if you don’t mind me, I think I have more masts and spars to taper…
