Hello all
I just started the hobby and must say Im enjoying it a lot. I have built things like model airplanes so this level of small detail is very enjoyable.
I just started with a cheap small sailing ship as people advised online and its going well, even the planking is going ok. I will be asking for advice on this forum for my next one as I would like to get a bigger challenge and a wooden sailing ship from the 1700s
All the best
Hendrik

Just a TEMU cheapie to start with. I see companies like occre, Amati and Mantua that sells kits. Any preference on a company that has good quality and value for money?
In my case, I've built model boats mainly with Constructo (I don't think this company exists anymore) and Artesania Latina, and a tram with Occre. For me, Occre and Artesania Latina offer a good quality/price ratio.

I don't have experience with other companies, but if you browse the forum, you'll see nice photos of practically every company in this business.

Cheers

Welcome to SoS Hendrik!

Choosing a kit depends on what the buyer wants, be it high quality, appropriate for the amount of experience, cheap price, and the list goes on. If you are looking for quality, as a beginner you may want to consider the three boat beginner series designed by David Antscherl and available from Model Expo. https://modelexpo-online.com/Model-...-Series-with-Tools-Glue-and-Paint_p_5290.html You will learn good habits with this series and has been well received for a number of years now. Model Ship Dockyard models would be a fantastic choice once you have some experience. Study the build logs of the various kits you see here and that might help you decide.
