Hi all, My name is Iain and I am new to this forum. I am 57 and live in the South East of England although I am originally from Scotland which I left in 1987. I have lived in a few different countries during my current career in IT, those being USA (Bay Area for 4 years), Iowa (1 year), Spain (Alicante 6 years) as well as Scotland and England.
I started ship modelling in 2002 when I built my first and only model of Corel's Vasa. After that I didn't do anymore and about 7 years ago I started modelling large scale (1/32) planes as I have an interest in aviation focusing around the golden age of aviation and especially the early air races of the 20s and 30s. I m curently working on a 1/32 PBY Catalina multi media kit (mainly resin) of which about 75% is complete. I have always wanted to build a POF ship as POB just does not interest me, 20 years ago there were no POF kits as such but only practicums like the Swan and Romero's Warrior. I'm not really looking to mill my own wood for a complete scratch build so I am focusing on the available POF kits (mainly Chinese) on offer with the focus on frigates, I am considering CAF's Enterprise and Dockyards's Blanford. I like the look of the Fleuron currently under progress by Wang but it looks to be a while away from being abvailable for purchase. Out of the Enterprise and Blanford I am slighty more favoured towards Enterprise as I like the Stern gallery more than Blandfords. Are there any more POF kits of this type (frigates or above) that are available that I don't know of? I have seen all the POF kits on offer by ZHL, CAF and Dockyard.
I would eventually love to scartch build 1732 HMS centurion from Comodor Anson's round the world venture where the Wager was lost of the coast of Chile and the Centurion went on to take the yearly Spanish treasure ship on her return voyage. I have read a couple of books on this voyage (Log of the Centurion being one) and also Patrick O' Brian's novels The Unknown Shore and The Golden Ocean.
Cheers!
Iain
