Hello

First of all, welcome to the forum. When you feel overwhelmed, give it some time and, I think, most importantly, try to enjoy what you are doing. If you can't do something or you're doing it wrong, try again and again.Create a built log for yourself on the forum. Before you do a part, search or ask questions on the forum.

Welcome to SoS Podunk. We lived near Podunk (Paducah KY) which is halfway between Possum Trot and Monkey's Eyebrow. I am not kidding about the names. If I was you, based on many build logs, I would set your kit aside and get the three boat starter kits from Modelshipways. They are top quality, reasonably priced and will teach you good habits on how to build a ship model. https://www.modelexpo-online.com/pr...-3-kit-combo-series-with-tools-glue-and-paint.

Hello and welcome aboard. I think Allan's suggestion to get the three boat starter kits from Model Shipways is very sound advice. Take your time and treat each step as an individual accomplishment. The most important thing is to have fun.

Bill

Nina is a good first ship.
You can of course create a build log but not everyone may want to and then you can ask questions about specific problems.
Feel free to check out the build logs that exist.

Personally, I think an electric plank bender works well for making planks for the hull.

Good day,

I am completely new to this hobby and I am hoping to seek and find support in this forum.
I have acquire the below starter kit to begin with but to be honest I am a bit overwhelmed:
How long is this model going to take me if I put in 2/3 hours a day?
i am a beginner (hopefully an advanced beginner) I am starting number 5 and hopefully getting better. the nina is a beautiful model and i have thought about building it. many people jump right in and succeed building a model of that level. i would really encourage you to start with one of the shipwright series at model expo. i think they still have the deal where you build the dory send them a photo and they credit you for the next one. i believe olha has a video of building the nina. anyway enjoy the journey. all the best, bob

But Nina is a beginner model!
I get a little pissed off at you Americans who keep spitting on the beginner models of the European kits.
Unfortunately, I get all the prejudices about Americans confirmed here, if it's not American then it's apparently useless.

almost every model I have built is a european model. they are good and the selection is great. however you better have a crystal ball to figure some of the directions. are you a real swede? your diatribe makes me wonder

strange diatribe. all of the nina models suggest some experience helpful.slurring nationalities not helpful. personally i like sweden and the swedish people ( i guess not all of them).

Are you american?
I use Google translate, it cant translate diatribe and slurring.

Ok, I'll expand on my answer a bit.
The thread creator has chosen a model to start with.
A beginner boat according to Amati (beginner 2).
How good is it then to answer that he will buy 3 more boats for about 150-250 euros depending on whether he lives in the USA or Europe?
I think that might make most people lose interest and think that this is not a hobby for me.

I see that no one has answered the question of how long it takes to build a boat like Nina.
My estimate is 100-150 hours or 1-2 months if you build a few hours a day.
And I still think that you could start with Nina.

There are many people here who will help you with good advice.

yes I am american and the trouble with the kits from europe is that they try to make you think and you know american people don't like to think.

diatrib in common swedish usage according to ai

From swedish ai:
No, "diatrib" is not a common word
; it is a more formal word for a scathing attack or a heated outburst. It can be a long, critical exposé, sometimes in written form, that uses humor, sarcasm, and emotional arguments. Synonyms might be "tirad" or "rant" (less formal)

Tirad in swedish is the word I would use, but that is something like a very long speech.

These comments should probably be under the heading linguistics. :)
