I am trying to help a friend obtain directions for 1:85 Ss Constellation frigate. It said to download instructions but all it is are pictures of the build. The text are not directions. Are there any reference books that can help? Please advise. Thank you.

The Constellation is a sister ship to the USS Constitution. I believe you can order the complete set of plans and instruction manual for the USS Constitution from Model shipways at Model Expo online. There shouldn't bee too much difference between them except for the scale of course.

Sorry, but the Constellation is not and never was a sister to Constitution. Constitution was a 44 gun frigate. Constellation, while built at approximately the same time was one of a class of smaller 36 or perhaps 38 gun frigates.

Furthermore, the kit builds a bastardized version of a totally different Constellation.

It’s a long story, discussed in detail elsewhere on the forum but in the 1850’s, the US Navy scrapped the Constellation and built an entirely new ship of completely different design; also named Constellation.

This newer different Constellation is the ship that promoters in Baltimore tried to pass off as the 1790’s Constellation. To reinforce their claim they added 1790’s features to the 1850’s ship that of course she never had.

The kit builds this 1850’s Constellation as bastardized by the Baltimore promoters. The kit manufacturer apparently embarrassed by their blunder supposedly no longer supports the kit.

The Baltimore ship has been completely rebuilt to her 1850’s design. Look her up on line for the full story.
