Hi All, I just wanted to introduce myself. I stumbled across this forum while looking up something I read in a Patrick O'Brien book, and was curious about the discussion of "the oldest hobby" etc. and getting newcomers in to it. I'm 46 and have built models for as long as I remember. I have fairly recently got back into plastic kits, the techniques are so much more advanced than when I was a kid, but all the kit is so good now, and I've fallen in love with the airbrush after learning how to use it. I've primarily built R/C, all kinds, including vintage aircraft, but I have never before built a scale wooden ship.

I would have loved to build the Model Shipways "Shipwright" 3 kit series, and pondered an order but the postage cost put me off a bit and everywhere in the UK is out of stock. I live quite near the Mantua importer in the UK, so I went to see them for advice and to get my first kit. The guys in Windsor recommended this one, due to the comprehensive instructions. I'm quite daunted still, but the prospect of a new type of build is very exciting. I did read much of the build log on this site regarding this kit and it has not helped my anxiety about it. I can't help agreeing that some of the guns should surely not be aimed right at the standing rigging.... How was that ever going to work, did they only shoot at angles to carefully avoid their own rigging? Is this seen on other 18th C ships? Anyway that debate is probably for another time. I need to find the right window to start, so hoping that comes up soon and perhaps I'll do a build log.

Thanks for accepting me on to the forum and looking forward to many happy hours working on this!
