What makes a kit like the corel hms victory selling for $849 at model expo worth this much versus a model shipways uss syren for $319?
I have build a couple ships all less then $300 so now I am wondering what is included in these kits priced at $800 even up to $1600?

I’d guess the wood prices. As a woodworking hobbyist also, I’ve seen stock prices triple in the last two years

a 1-decker for 319
a 3-decker would cost 3*319 = 957
So 849 sounds cheap

A small joke, which has some correct iarguments included.

As biiger the model, as more material is included, and not only wood, but also all fittings, guns, rope and blocks etc.

The importa taxes etc. will be also a reason .... and sometime some kit prices are not reasonable, especialy when the kits are existing since 40 years and nothing was re-developed in the meantime. Often now the manufacturer use cheap plywood where in the past real wood was included

I calculate usually 1 Euro per modeling hour - this is and should be usual the costs for our hobby (without the books, plansets, machines, tools, colours, sandpapers, knife-blades and and and)
Not the kits are the real costs producers, it is the (un-)necessary stuff around our hobby

Only SOS is free-off charge ;)
