As an introvert, I am a little proud for registering here . So, hello out there!

I am probably as new as they come since I haven’t built anything yet, but here I am excited to start!

I’ve always been fascinated by ships, boats, or any watercraft really. For whatever reasons, I haven’t done much with the interest until now, and there’s no credit to be had for binge watching the Pirates of the Caribbean movies just to look at the fictional ships. Ideally I would become a master shipmodeler, and Captain of my own ship/boat one day, but my funds have limited me to window shopping and Google searches thus far.

I’ve got an order for a small canoe kit to get started! One I day would like to build the USS Constitution & Whydah Gally. I’ve still got to get some tools. If there are any suggestions on what tools to get on a budget, please let me know!

Thank you!
Moni

Look for good pricing on x-acto knives, even a scalpel is nice to have. Sanding blocks and various grits of sand paper too. Start small and purchase tools as you need them. ( you really can't have too many tools ;) )

Thanks for the welcoming and prompt advice ☺️. Luckily I have a scalpel and x-acto knives in my painting supplies, and some sand paper I can probably wrap around a “block”. Good point on the different grits @Philski!

Can’t wait for the package to come!

Welcome to the forums, Moni !
There is LOTS of help available (probably more than you want :) ) All you need to do is ask your questions. You will get responses that will include 20 different ways to do something. ROTF As far as tools you need, there is a great thread here: Basic Tools Needed Additionally, I would recommend you get a few books such as "Ship Modeling Simplified" by Mastini and/or "Historic Ship Models" by Mondfeld. You can often get those used at a very reasonable price. And of course, there are always lots of videos available to watch on YouTube.

Again Welcome !

Jeff

Welcome, Moni. I am also pretty new. I signed up for the weekly email and I look forward to the Weekly Digest every Saturday morning. It's nice to sip on coffee and scroll through what people are building and talking about. Great way to learn.

Moni, you will find the nicest people from around the world willing to help you in your new adventure.
I personally found this forum to be super friendly and willing to help.
You will learn a lot and have fun.

Welcome Moni! This is a great site with plenty of advice in many areas (tools, kits, etc..)
I have had plenty of success finding unbuild (but used) kits on Shopgoodwill.com. You have to be
patient. Usually get them at 25% what they go for on eBay or retail. Many time you can pickup
a classic Midwest kit (I have 7 on my shelf and almost finished with the Midwest Sharpie Schooner.
A lot of fun and great learner kits. Have fun and Happy modeling.
