HMS ALERT 1777 cutter POF by shota70 [COMPLETED BUILD]

Your doing good it looks like, who need to read and follow directions anyway......

Glad your small error got correct easily. I hope I don't make such errors when I get around to building this ship one day.

Good work - very complex
For me often these are the areas of ship structure, which you have to understand technically, before you can do it correctly in real wood
Thumbsup

Good evening friends
First of all I would like to thank you for all the written support and likes. It gives strength to quality and beautiful construction
Tonight I did not work much but I was able to prepare and install frames number 6. This is another tiny step in the fun and long process of this beautiful ship model.

Looking good Shota! This is a great kit. Keep up the good work! ;)

good evening dear friends
Today I made frames number 6.
The special / different thing about it from the first five is that it composed from two main / large parts that what connects them is the chock . In the chock I installed bronze nails.
My lesson is to build a jig similar to what our friend jimsky did in post 171 on his blog. Attaches photos to impress.

Good evening friends
Over the last few days I have been continuing to prepare and assemble Frames 8-9, this time replacing the brass nails with black wood wire.
I wonder what is better in your eyes.?

Have a fun and happy holidays :)Bottle

The black dowels give a sharper definition - the bronze ones are more subtle.
Yes, you are correct, Heinrich, they look subtle. However, when using brass\copper wire, we assume, over time (who knows when ;)) the bolts\treenails will naturally oxidize and will be more visible with a natural patina color. The same statement can be applied to copper trenails.
But this is why our Alert builds are all different, even though we are building from the same kit. Everyone has his\her touch

Good evening friends
In the last few days I have been preparing frames 11-10, and today I glued them to keel.
During the work I had to deal with a fracture that developed in part number 1 in frame number 11, which resulted from its cutting not with the direction of the fibers of the wood and due to non-resistance to the pressure required to insert the frame into the socket in the jig and keel.
Do not worry I glued and also strengthened the Frame at the breaking point without being seen.

Wishing a happy, enjoyable and successful New Year to all of us :)

Happy New Year dear friends
I will open the new year with an update, in the last few days I have made the frames 12-15 and tonight I installed them on the keel and jig. Next I noticed that I installed the number 10 frames at the wrong angle, so I removed them and re-glued so that now everything is installed at the right slope.

The black dowels give a sharper definition - the bronze ones are more subtle.
When it comes to nails, whether it be on the hull or the deck, I think it is very subjective.
I prefer subtle nailing, so it isn’t overpowering. So it’s my preference that they should be seen, but as an observation, not in your face. To me very bold on the hull or deck is a distraction.
You know how they disguise test cars on the track? They put a very busy pattern on the car, to effect your ability to see the cars lines! It works too!
So in my opinion, I want the lines of the ship to be seen first and foremost, and the nailing to be a subtlety you have to notice with closer observation.
Now on the frame work, we tend to want that extra work to be noticed. ;)
That said, I can understand and appreciate both approaches!

You are making very good progress my friend, but make sure that you don't build too fast. Carefully check and re-check before gluing any parts.
