I just this morning purchased the OCCRE HMS Beagle kit using OCCRE's black Friday sale. I have been viewing their assembly videos and have noticed that they are almost always using a single over hand knot to tie a rope around yards, spars, on sails, etc. and then they merely cut off the excess end. They don't double knot it nor do they put a drop of glue on the knot. Is this just plain wrong or do I just underestimate the holding ability of a single knot?

I wouldn't pay much attention to the techniques the builder in the video is using, I quickly learned when I built my Beagle that the person in the video was doing a rush job, there are many instances where the video doesn't even match what the directions called for. One thing I have learned about Occre is they always have terrible examples of building their own kits in their instructions and videos, it drives me crazy that they are too lazy to even blacken their brass as new builders follow their leads and it looks horrible.
