HMS Blandford POF by Keith [COMPLETED BUILD]

a beautiful hull - very good work and congrats for reaching this step

The addition of the keelson was the last stage of this part of the hull construction, so now is a good time to apply the finish. The first coat dried completely flat but a second coat gives a slight sheen which l find quite pleasing. It's now back into the cradle for the cannon ports to be cut and the continuation of the rest of the build.

It's like just about any POF-build is balm to sore eyes. Your build is no exception. Thumbsup

Oh yeah, really brings out the wood tone. Excellent.
What finish did you apply?

Thank you. If you go back to my post 121 there is a photo of what l used. Not sure if you can get it in the States. But something similar l expect

HMS Blandford is back in the cradle to finish off the hull. The gun ports have all been cut and the stern counter frames have now been added, which l must say was quite a job getting them look right. lt took a few attempts and 3 parts l had to recut from spare 4mm wood scraps due to me fitting them wrongly. These parts all look the same for both sides but there is a very slight difference in their curves for the port and starboard. Looking down the centre line everything seems to line up nice and square. Next is on to the interior with the fitting of the strakes

The next stage of my Blandford build is the fitting of the interior, starting with the deck clamps which require some severe bending to fit round the inside of the hull so the pieces have been soaked and clamped to the hull. As a result l am waiting for them to dry and take on the required curves. ln the meantime l have decided to jump ahead and work on the beautiful stern decorations and lion figurehead that are supplied with this kit. They are cut from boxwood using 4 axis CNC and are very pale in colour, almost white. l gave them a 50/50 diluted water based walnut wood dye wash and allowed it to pool in the low areas to produced a weathered effect which, when the time comes to fit them, will blend in better with the hull. l'm very pleased with the effect
