HMS GRANADO 1:48 scale PoF CAF Model by Keith

Since my last visit I have been busying myself with lots of jobs including hanging the rudder and anchor, both of which need some little jobs to finish. The weather here has been unusually cold and wet the last few weeks, making it no very pleasant to work in my workshop, so I've taken time off to take these photos before completing these tasks, including the rigging of the cathead. I don't have a copy of A.O.TS. for the Granado and don't know the use of the two large pulley's and their respective lines on the gundeck, just fore of the 13 inch mortar housing. The only thing l can think of is they're somehow to do with the turning of the mortar and howitzer, although l'm probably miles from the truth. l would be interested to know though, if anyone could enlighten me it would be very much appreciated. The project is now drawing to an end with the near completion of the 10 x 6 pounder guns. The details of which I will document next time.

Your model continues to be very well done! I am curious to know the diameter of the anchor cable.
Thank you kindly
Allan
The anchor cable is 2.5 mm. It is thread l bought from Caldercreaft as all the rigging threads that were supplied with the kit were not too good, a horrible dark brown colour and a bit out of scale.

I did some calculations, assuming the mast diameter was about 18" to 20" Using the formulas from James Lees book and converting to metric, the cable at 1:48 should be about 1.8-1.9mm. Not a big deal, but thought you might that interesting.

No matter, your build looks great
Allan

The ten 6 pounder guns are now made up and fitted onto the gun deck. l used lengths of 1.2 mm strip under the trucks to simulate the deck which allows the gun carriages to stand at the right height over the exposed deck beams. Unfortunately I don't have the movement in my left hand to have the ability of rigging the guns, but as it is only me who will see it so I can live with it

Good evening Keith. I like the way you have presented the cannons with just a plank under the wheels rather than planking a portion of the deck. It give me some ideas. As always wonderful work. Cheers Grant

I offer the following thought with the greatest of admiration:

I've just realized the fellows who make these wonderful ships with all the ribs and such showing are like a nimble fellow doing handstands on his motorcycle at full speed. (While I ride a tricycle).

. . . Oh how I wish . . .

Thank you Grant. I've done it a few times with my PoF models. I think it also looks better if you stagger the ''planks'' with slightly different lengths
