I planed to start my building log, but at the end I was motivated by the Uwe log to finaly do it :)

Lets start my building log of this interesant kit from CAF.

I started with the acryl glass jig. There are three set of screws with diferent lenght and no intstruction how to use it.
At the end the long screws are for the bottom part A, the short for the upper part C2 and the middle for the rest.
The fit of the acryl gals part are perfect. The connecting part are made of resin. So, do not overtighten the screws.

A small oppening must be cut in the two corner connecting parts. Otherwise I caould not instal the frame (6) into the jig.

I started with first frame (6). But on the drawing are too many lines close together. After a hour, I was still lost. Than I have idea, to start my investigation on the frame (14). I just alignet the part with the drawing. And I have find out, that the Red line is for the B frame and the black for A frame.

As I assembled the frames. I was disappointed that assembled frame B have lose fit to the keel. The oppening was about 0,5mm wider as keel.
Why the CNC machined part does not fit?

I decided to shorten the choke to close the gap to keel.

I found on my kit that the lasered marking on the two parts on the frame (12) is on the wrong side.

Parts prepared according lasserd marking lines on it.

Parts prepared according drawings and instruction.

Lesson learned: trust the instruction and drawing not the marked line it can by on wrong side.

The frame assembly was straight forward. Now I have all the frames assembled and glued to the keel. Now it is sanding time.

Hallo @stan167 ,
I am very happy to see, that you are also working on this CAF - kit of the HMS Granado section.
Very good and interesting start of the log
BTW: I made it by accident in the same way like you described - looking at frame "6" and finally started with the "14" - it was easier to understand and to find out how to do it

Thank you.

I have tried black glue, PVA + graphite powder for the keelson

Then I prepared the reinforcement ribs. I would like to use them to check the sanding of the rins to have nice fit.

20211203_102155.jpg

According to the instruction, I have to use acrylic part D5 to control the spacing between the reinforcement ribs. Th red part on the picture from instruction is D5.

However, it does not fit into the jig together with the reinforcement ribs. I draw the position of the acrylic parts D5 into the drawing. The grooves in the part D5 need to be extended to the orange line by about 2mm.

As I was looking deeply into the instruction a found out that on the reinforcement ribs are missing pre-machinded grooves.
Per instruction they should be used to align the thickstuff plank.

At the end of the day some glued part, using the "black" PVA glue.

Very clean and professional job.

I heard many times about the "black PVA". And would like to request if you can provide your recipe and how you spread it. Basically, how you do it.

I have the PVA and the graphite that a Moderator once suggested. I am a kind of disaster modeler. I am sure if I try I will do the incorrect mix and spread it too thick or too diluted. I will end all glued myself and the wood all black. :)

Will be better if I can follow a recipe.

Thank you !!
Daniel

Thank you.

About the black PVA. I also bought some graphite powder suggested somewere on the forum. My first attemt was about 1:1. You can glue the parts together, but not all powder has mixed with glue. And the powder was everywhere, not easy to cleanup. Now I only add graphite powder only on the tip of the scalpel. It depends on the amount of PVA I am going to use.

Some progress.

Very clever idea - and the execution is looking very good - clean and accurate work

All grooves on the reinforcement ribs were added.

Before gluing it, I need to remove 2mm from the part D5, wich serves as teplate for correct position of the ribs.

I only used the part D5 to check the position. To align the height with the holes in the jig, I used some block 8x8mm found in my box with spare parts. Everything fit very well. To fill small gaps, I used putty made of PVA glue ad wood dust, which I collected during sanding.

The next step is the shell room. Lot of parts to clean up and assembly :)

It really looks great. And you are really doing a excellent job. By reading and following your log made me wanting to build the full ship, so i just ordered the full ship (hm granado from caldercraft) , by the way the one of caldercraft full version looks a lot nicer than the one of amati. But i keep on following this also. Really like the work you are doing

Very good work - and also accurate
Do I see it correct, that you painted the inner side white?

The white tone is probably from light. On the pictures above is not used any varnish or collor.
On the pictures bellow is the bottom area and the shell room parts varnished. I am using matt varnish.
The set contains only 20 rounds, the empty spaces will be not visible.

Very good work - also very interesting to see, how you "opened" the amunitione room for the views.
You are some days or weeks ahead, so good for me to see your work
