I purchased this kit (Stella Mara) along with the supplemental offerings of 3D printed Stern/Badge structures and Bow decorations. I did use the Stern and Badges printings but, in retrospect, should have used the original wooden parts. I have started building the Bow decorations, including the head rails, and have progressed on their completion using the original wooden parts. I tried the 3D printed structure but found that it would not fit what I had already constructed at the bow. The plastic printings are unforgivable if measurements vary by as little as a millimeter or two. Key to this problem is the setting of the Catheads. Their construction should be done in conjunction with the Bow decorations if one were to used the 3D printings. For me. wood is a much more forgiving media. However, the 3D printed article does provide what amounts to an excellent 3D "plan". Head rails typically are one of the most demanding features to model, but they are also most satisfying upon completion. This, of course, is my personal opinion. Others may find the printed parts to be totally acceptable and actually superior to wood construction.
This kit is excellent in virtually all aspects. However, if I had one critical suggestion (I do actually have two!) it would be to modify the plans to be in exact scale (a problem that the company does note). Taking measurement directly from the plans, using either a rule or calipers, would improve the building experience. My second suggestion would be to indicate, in some fashion, the sizes of various items such as blocks, hooks, ring bolts etc.
Again, this is an excellent product. I recommend getting the upgraded blocks and cannons. They are truly beautiful! Many details are shown on the plans that are often ignored by other kit manufacturers, including structures never actually seen on the finished model.
