"Trial", kinda got that. I believe it was the new drop keel design being trailed. I ordered the prints from London Greenwich Museum, which was only made better by visiting the Museum, Naval college, and Portsmith last Month. First trip to London. This is a more than credible job. Congrats, it is well done. Belongs on a mantel.
In a case.!.!
When I saw "Trial" I flashed on the Bonita-class 10 gun sloop that made it almost half the way with Anson's squadron. But that was 70 years earlier. I think that I read this - for this vessel the name "Trial" is associated with it being an experiment testing the use of drop keels.
Depending on where you wish to go - historical or show:
Historical - while I gravitate to Hard Maple - for planking I prefer the plane cut face. The figured face tends to hog the stage as I view it.
The deck fasteners were built to be as invisible as possible at 1:1 scale. Not because of the visibility thing so much as to keep them in place on a deck that was sanded almost daily. Also, if the grain was in a different orientation - they may swell more and stick up - which is not a good thing for bare feet.
It is not as much fun or pleasing to use or showy to see, but Silk Span is a fabric for sails that is closer to scale.

I enjoy it.Just finished stretch build HMS Trial 1/48 per plans from Greenwich Naval Museum. Used Maple stock for model. Year long journey, but learned a lot. Enjoy. Love any suggestions or criticism. I can take it.View attachment 608135View attachment 608136View attachment 608137View attachment 608138View attachment 608139View attachment 608140View attachment 608141View attachment 608142
