HMS Victory by FifeModels - Artesania Latina - Scale 1/84 - Anatomy Version

That looks really good.
Very nice. I could live with that. I also bought the HMS Victory and will convert it to 1765. It's always been my dream to build her like this. The kit from AL is just right for that!!! It is currently the best kit on the market.

Best regards

Hi
Good progress. Yes those joints even in the videos look a bit off. I've already considered actually planking (veneering) the very top deck, something to consider when I get there. Starting my Victory today as it happens. Just need to tidy my modelling space to make room.

Video #12 Complete

Video 12 was fairly straight forward. Mostly just fitting the items built in the previous video.

Fitting the compartments was much easier than I thought it would be. I did have to adjust the stern wall to fit as I clearly didn't get the wall in the correct position, and the same with the beam at the bow.

Hi Dominic.
Good to see all all those individual parts coming together and glad to hear your small adjustments were simple to do.
Keep up the good work.

Hey Dominic,
really beautifully implemented. Just great work and so neatly done. I'll stick with it and look forward to great pictures and progress from you.

Cheers

I'd suggest, if using the tool from AL, that you do the grooves before you stain/paint, otherwise you will just damage the paint and have to redo them anyway.

Video #16 Complete

Hull frames are now faired ready for planking. Was probably the easiest one I've done to date. I used an orbital mouse sander to do the bulk of the work, and switched to a Dremel with the EZ-Clic sanding disc for the stern area and anywhere close to the keel.

Then the first 4 layers of hull planking on each side. The wood supplied is amazingly pliable. I've not had to use a single plank bending method anywhere on this build yet.

Hey Dominic,

I'm happy about every construction step you take. It looks really good. I'm sticking to your construction log. Great work.

Do you glue the frames with the superglue from AL or do you use wood glue?

Cheers

I've exclusively used the AL superglue so far, but am running out so will just get a different brand to finish.

Your ship looks awesome. I just received mine today and looking forward to starting her. But need to finish the rigging on my Santisima Trinidad first. I will be keeping a eye on your build

Lining of the gun ports is done.
I realize many will not find this of much importance but there seems to be a constant design error with Artesania Latina kits. FWIW there are no linings/stops for the lids on the top of the ports on Victory or other English warships. There were of course the sills on top and bottom as you have them, but the linings or stops were only on the sides and bottom of the ports. If you look at photos of ships on the RMG site or Victory, you will see that there were never any linings on the top of the gunport openings. The linings on the bottom and sides of the ports were only about 1" to 1.5" thick (0.3mm to 0.45mm) at a scale of 1:84.
EDIT: The stops are recessed into the port openings on the outboard side to accommodate the lids so they sit flush with the planking of the hull when closed. The inboard side of the stops are even with the frames and covered by the inboard planking of the bulwark.
