HMS Victory by Occre build log

Hello, I am Noël Luc from Belgium and I have been a member for about 2 months. I am currently working on my first boat "De Norske Love". Probably quite high for a first boat. I already have many photos of the construction so far that I will post on the forum soon. My eye also fell on the HMS Victory Limited edition, which I bought. I will first finish the Norske Love and when that is finished I will start on the HMS Victory! I look forward to sharing your experiences with you (if you wish)! I also purchased the expansion kit to completely close the hull if I wish

Sorry to you all here with Victoria. This KIT is absolutly not a BEGINNERS KIT. General such a Kit would take about 3 years to build.. One year making the False Keel, inserting the Keeñ, Bow and Stern parts, and inserting all the (Spanten) or bulkheads. Then it is highly recommended to insert Bow and Stern fillers. My later models even fillers between the Spants-up and the lower gun deck. Now you can start planking the Hull (after having made a Gard Board).
2Nd Yeard: To make the decks, Gunports and all the assessory on the Deck (cabins, Haches, Akkers and many other things
3TH. Year: the Rigging -standing Rigge, Then to Running Riggen- which can be divided into to Two- depernding if the ship would have sails or not.

Happy Building

Great photos

Just ordered the new rather expensive HMS Victory from Occre. Look forward to receiving it in a few days time. Hope to post the build of it over the next few months or more realistically a year. Should be interesting comparing it to the Caldercraft Victory I built in 2015. Since then a Titanic, Riva, Sovereign of the Seas, a Sopwith Camel, HMS Blandford have been added to my collection. Just completed the Occre Sevensons Rocket - this put me onto the Occre Victory. Looking at the description it is for the 'expert' which is a bit daunting as my skills have yet led to advanced techniques such as clever nailing. However during the next few months hope to be inspired to try these techniques out. Will see how its goes - anyway see below for the Caldercraft Victory which started my latest modeling activities after a 40 years break (used to make simple Airfix planes which all ended up in flames or small model gliders which crashed!)

I thank you, I just try to do my best and give love to everybody . Fast, trouble-free browning. The anchors also go there with an addition of acrylic. This rather matte black does not necessarily have to be uniform but should allow nuances to stand out, I find that prettier. I'll show you the model of the Musée de la Marine in Paris, it's up to you to see. Have a nice weekend everyone (and all?) -)) Phil

Started the rigging. Found a brilliant site where someone I presume has photographed rigging instructions from several different kits of the Victory model
See this link

I used the 1:84 scale ones. Got a printer to print copies in A2 which is just the right size to see all the detail. Is is making life a lot easier than just using the OCCre drawings whicg don't really provide enough detail

One problem is of course there drawings interpret rigging differently than the Occre one - ie some of the rigging is attached in very slightly different places on the masts etc. Can get confusing especially as I have the built Caldercraft to refer to!!.

Yes it will end up as a bit of a muddle what with taking instructions from 3 different sources. However it seems to work out OK - just got to decide what is right for my skill level. Also the Alan McGown is a superb reference bible - if there are any discrepancies am taking the book as the guide as to what to do.

Will post some photos of how I m getting on in a few days time

These new instructions/photos are perfect as they to make the task of rigging much easier. In fact dare I say it it makes rigging much less of a daunting task than if I just had to rely on the Occre instructions.

Onwards and upwards............

Agree with you Julian, the information that HISModel has assembled is absolutely fantastic.

Good morning Julian. Great reference for the Victory rigging. I used this plenty when rigging mine. Enjoy playing with plenty ropes, blocks and tying a ton of knots. Cheers Grant

Just noticed this post from October 2023!!

congratulations and good luck with your build. Your unboxing pictures seem to show the 'standard' OcCre rigging thread which is very easy to work with but rather soft and fluffy. In not sure it is of a quality consistent with the claimed standard of the kit.

Yes the .15mm thread is rather fluffy - any suggestion for a replacement as I would like to get this aspect looking good!. Will be a shame to replace it because there are some 14 reels of 0.15mm thread waiting to be used for the rigging - I do hate wasting materials - however think it will be worthwhile

I looked at the Caldercraft and they supplied white 0.25 thread. Fortunately have quite a bit left over so I could use this - however due to differences in scale I think better not to as it is too big. Looking for 0.15mm white thread

When I started my model, I really wanted the JoTiKa kit, but I didn’t have the opportunity to buy it. I also looked at Mamoli. In the end, I printed out the Mantua blueprints and got to work. I’ve only just begun my story, but there will be a lot of interesting things soon. I’ll be following your progress. You already have a beautiful model, and I’m looking forward to seeing another victory!

Getting on well with the rigging - it really helps having the Caldercraft Victory to refer to

The Occre kit does not supply open heart blocks which Caldercraft use for the main stay so made some from some of the sheets of wood where the laser cut parts came from. To keep to the smaller scale of the two models made them 8mm instead of 10mm. Am having problems especially on the bowsprit fitting in all of the various blocks - there is not a lot of room to tie the thread round the bowsprit!!.

As you can see from the (admittedly poor photos) rest of rigging is coming along well. So far spent 2/3 weeks on rigging so it will be a long job, still it will be worth it in the end

What does not help as we are moving house in three weeks time!!! - Have to take 3 model boats which are up to 1300mm long will be a challenge as do not want them to end up in a pile of splinters. Am modifying the largest boxes I have to put them (garment boxes used for clothing are almost the right size) -

Very nice !
Hello everyone,
I'm a little 'bored' of building HMS Victory Ed Limited, that's why I'm taking a 'step back' by assembling the Woodtrick full size pickup truck... of 700 pieces, that relaxes me -))

Great photos
You all right,
I'm a little 'bored' of building HMS Victory Ed Limited, that's why I'm taking a 'step back' by assembling the Woodtrick full size pickup truck... of 700 pieces, that relaxes me -)) but the hms Victory is always on the rails... Never despair, I think that the first quality, apart from passion, is... time!

What a marvel -))

Just realised its been more than a year in building. Am on the rigging stage. Revised completion is Easter

ps Will keep at it and not be sidelined on the next model which is another train.!!

Very recognisable! I always have one or two 'easy' models, preferably not a ship, to get away from the ongoing big project. Trick is to still keep on pushing to finalise the ship at some stage.

WOW! I am impressed with the skills of all the builds that I have seen so far. The attention to detail is inspiring. So, I just ordered the new Victory from Artesanialatina at about $1,300 USD. It shipped today. No prior experience at this level. My only experience is building full scale Tiffany Lamp reproductions and full size, track ready Porsche race cars (see September, 2001 edition of Car & Driver magazine. I sold that company in 2004. I will be ecstatic if I can even complete it properly. Don't mind trying and failing at first though.

I will be referring to all of your good work frequently.
