HMS Victory Mantua 1:78 (first build) by Grant Tyler

I like what you're doing here Grant. By the time all the hanks are in place it will look a proper mess.

I'm not sure how many different sizes of rope you used but be careful to match the rope hank with the line size - I had the privilege of replacing some (NO MORE DO-OVERS).
Good morning Paul. Thank you. I haven’t hit the “no more do over” stage just yet- luckily. ;)Good spotting on the coils. The interesting thing is that they 0.5mm and the line they “support “ is also 0.5mm. The coils are the purchased thread while the lines are thread from the kit- the kit lines do look thicker now you point it out to me. Photos do highlight this. I have no more Mantua 0.5mm. Now what…?….and no I’m not buying more Mantua thread for 4 coilsROTF. Cheers Grant

oops I did it again...I have no idea why when I post on my phone it duplicates a picture....I guess you guys will see this again Redface:rolleyes:
I scratched my head on different posts why there appear images at the end that you can not delete…
But I think I found out what‘s the reason:
when you insert an image into the post by using the insert image button on top (on the phone) the image will be added inside the text and also will appear in the attachment list. If you now remove the image from the post (inside the text block) it still remains in the attachment list. And every image which is in the attachment list but us not used inside the post Text will be automatically added at the end of the post. So if you would like to remove these pictures you have to remove them from the attachment list.

But in this special case all additional pictures are welcome, so I would opt for just leaving it as it is…

Good morning- ricochet rabbit Grant at it again. While waiting for my supplies, I had some 0.4mm rope so decided to jump way ahead and fit the sheet lines for the jib.

Hanks and coils- these are so cool. I’m trying to mix and match and make these untidy. I do the Hank and coil for each line I complete.

MAJOR CONCERN: the belay pin racks that Mantua provided do not have enough belay pins. (Not their fault, this model has limited standing rigging only- lack of foresight by rookie Grant when doing these) Going to become interesting later for sure!

Hanks and coils some pics I like:

I know I will never build like these guys but good to see what can be achieved- pics courtesy of Pinterest.
Cheers Grant

Wow - I am glad to see the scrapbox yields such good material to work with. The pictures and thus the work, are just superb. A note of caution though. Looking at the first pic, I was wondering on what you stood to take it - please be careful. I am not overly worried about your tough, old South African build, but was thinking more of what would happen if you slipped and fell on top of the Victory. Horror of horrors that will make the kitty's little accident seems like child's play.

you are on a good way to achieve this level of modeling
Michel Magerotte f.e. is a real master of ship modeling (one of the best in my opnion) - but be sure he did not work in this quality when he started
All masters were in the past beginners

I love his La Belle Poule
and the Le Fleuron (the model you showed)

Thanks Uwek. It is insane how extremely talented Michel is. His La Belle Poule and Le Fleuron,in the links you sent me, are without a doubt the best models I have seen to date - just Incredible! Thanks for sharing these. Cheers Grant

I hope you haven't lost sight of how wonderful your build is Grant. Just inspiring stuff! Challenged to keep up with your torrid pace (both quality and quantity)!
Good afternoon Paul. Thank you. Really appreciate this comment. I am fortunate to spend 3hrs each morning on my Victory. I wake up very early and while the rest of the house sleep I play with my ship. Cheers Grant
