I’m posting this new build log in memory of Don Farr. Don was a well-liked and respected member of our community who passed away recently. Many of you will recall how Don always typed in capital letters and ended his comments with GOD BLESS AND STAY SAFE DON FARR. Before he passed, he sent me a stern section kit in 1:24 scale of His Majesty’s Yacht Fubbs because he knew he would never be able to complete it. This kit is a plank on frame and it will be my first. I’m glad it’s just the stern section because it will be a challenge for me.

Mike Shanks, along with his other cohorts at Weaselworks, produced this kit in limited numbers, primarily for other friends and members of Weaselworks. I feel blessed to be included in some small way with them. Other builds of the Fubbs exist on SOS, and I’m sure that you will find better examples of the kit there. This will be the first one dedicated to Don’s memory.

Here are some pictures of the unboxing. The frames are laser cut and need sanding. A good excuse to buy a new sander? Sorry for the jumbled mess. It just reflects the state of my mind these days. GOD BLESS AND STAY SAFE DON FARR.

I understand that fubbs means chubby. It was named for the girlfriend of Charles II. She must have enjoyed eating.

Yes, thats correct. He referred to his lady as Fubbs. I must get my kit out of mothballs one-day and continue my build.
I was one of the fortunate few that received this kit.

I stand corrected. I’ve just been informed that the kit I received was from another gentleman other than Don Farr. Don received a kit also and wasn’t able to finish it. I’m still building it to honor Don’s memory and the work put in by Mike Shanks. And a shout out to Jodie as well. I love this community of ours.

Yes please !!! Built it !! If I remember correctly you were the only one that requested the kit made in Yellow Cedar , or parts of it. Am I correct ?

Vic, I will be following your built. It will be great to see another one done. I am sure that with your experience you will not have any issue at all with the plank on frame technique. On top of that, this kit use a POF technique that is not being used today. I am sure on DocBlake built is described or mentioned. It will be very ease.

Cheers
Daniel

Actually, Daniel, I didn’t have an opportunity to request it. It was passed on to me by someone who would not be able to complete it.

Weaselworks..best company name ever
A smaller version of skunk works perhaps? Or perhaps a wilier one?
It is an homage to “Skunk Works”. They were a small group of aeronautical engineers at Lockheed-Martin who were free of corporate interference and red tape while they worked on innovative and confidential projects.
