Hohenzollernmodell 1660-1670 Scale 1/75 POF build by Stephan Kertész (Steef66)

Hello Stephan,
Now that you have finished your lion figure, I have to give you another big compliment. And you can be very proud of the work of art, all carved by yourself from a wonderful material: Wood ... Boxwood?
Thanks Johann, great compliment of a master model shipbuilder.
Yes it's boxwood, German origine and dried for a long time >10 years. Carving with a chissel was almost impossible, carving went well. But I killed a few cutters on it.

Almost forget to post my work on the HZ.

I'm working on the "zitters", it takes time I can make only 2 (one on each side) and have to wait to the glue to dry. But it goes steady.

I also make the lion fit correct on the bow and started with the decoration behind the lion. The first try (thought it was boxwood, but it seems to be castello and on the small parts it breaks to easily) was no success, the second one with real boxwood goes better. But it is more work then the lion. It is very small and breaking on the smaller parts is possible. I used my MF70 to drill straight the holes.

Now you have me worried, Stephan. I have mountains of leftover castello boxwood that I was hoping to use for carving the decorations.
The small branches you see in the decoration where between 1,5 and 2 mm. That is for castello to small and that will break. If you tape it to a piece of wood it is workable but this ornament has a 2 sided view. So I started over with boxwood.
If you can buy European boxwood (Ebay), just buy it. It is much better to use.

I don't think I've ever seen European boxwood available anymore. I'll poke around some more.

Very nice ‘artisanal 3D’ carving, Stephan.
Regards, Peter

Thanks Grant. And everybody thanks for the visit an likes (and fun)

Today’s update.
This was no fun I can tell you, my "tiny"fingers find it difficult to hold it while using the drill. So it was a few time airborne.
But I succeeded to finish the ornament in the bow. Still don't know how to call that part, need to lookup. Everything isn't glued. There is another part I need to make and that is the top of that piece of wood on the back of the lion. There comes also a curl in. I fit and glued also 4 "zitters" in the hull. The pictures:

A very nice ornament, Stephan. And the lions tail kept it nicely in place.

Thanks again for the likes and visit.
Boring job is done the "zitters" are placed on the hull. Roughly sanded still need a final sanding before I can place the "wegering". Now I'm starting the bow section and we all know that ain't easy.

Nothing is straight, the same thickness or perfect. Just how it was done by those shipbuilders in that time in the Netherlands.
