I am in the early stages of plankingthe hull and with it being 2mm x 6mm in dimension it is most diffficculy to bring the planks on the sharp form without snapping the plank. Need suggestions. I am using soaking with heated soldering iron to form planks.

I think 2 mm is too thick ,1 mm is the norm ,what kind are of wood and are you using and is this the first layer of planking??

G'day FaNa4od
You can try to soak the boards in ammonia rather than water. It is a bit easier. Also you might think about getting a electric plank bender from eBay. Like this.

I bought one from a Hungarian site for about $AUD 70ish including postage.
You get a more spread put heat.

Greg the ammonia destroys the structure of the wood,2 mm is too thick for planking in my opinion,I have used 0.5 mm on the Avs.

You are right, but I've done 2mm with ammonia and I washed it latter. It's hard work and you have to take it easy.

Thank you for the assists. I am going to try the 0.5 mm and see if that works better. I do not know why they put 2mm mahogany in for planking.

Thak you everyone
