I introduce myself.
In this forum I’m known with the nickname Jack Aubrey, the well-known post captain of the british frigate HMS Surprise, who, with his friend Dr. Stephen Maturin, are the main protagonists of the series of novels written by Patrick O’Brian.
In reality my name is Sergio Galli, I am Italian, born in 1949 and I will be 70 in three months. I live for a few months a year in a city in the hinterland of Milan (Cinisello Balsamo) and for others in a small town (Calci) near Pisa, Tuscany.
In Cinisello I have a well-stocked workshop for practicing ship modeling, while in Calci I have to work in a garage. This fact forces me to transfer part of the tools and materials when I move from one place to another.
With regards to ship modeling, I have been practicing this hobby since 2006, the year in which I retired and I was able to restart, thanks to the greater availability of free time. I wrote “restart” because ship modeling was my passion since I was 15 years old. At that time I built 5-6 ship models, some of them still survive today. When at 21, I started to work I had to suspend modeling due to lack of time. Obviously also my marriage and the birth of two children did not improve the situation, on the contrary . . . until 2006.
Since 2006 I built various models; some were finished while others were sold, with the hull completed, to other modellers who, for reasons of space, could not afford to build a hull from scratch and therefore preferred to complete the model with deck accessories and masts and sails.
In this forum I present the build logs of some models that I finished and others that I am still building.
If you have any questions, I would be happy to answer, kind regards, Jack.
